Online ad network Chitika has conducted a study on the number of words it takes to drive good traffic on search engines. It was found that a three word query on search engines brought in most traffic.
The breakup of search engine traffic occurred as follows– three word search queries (26%), two word search queries (19%), four word search queries (17%) and one word search queries (14%).
This information is useful for while optimizing your site for search engines. Optimal traffic and conversions can be seen by ranking high for queries that are within three to five words.
